Intermountain Centers for Human Development was established in 1973 as a private not-for-profit service organization with the objective of assisting Native American youth in the acquisition of positive life skills. Intermountain currently provides innovative support services to children and youth who are emotionally and behaviorally challenged, seriously mentally ill adults, and developmentally disabled individuals, in addition to working with families who are in need of parenting skills and community resources in order to provide for their children.

Pantano Behavioral Health Services has contracted with Intermountain to provide Tohono O’odham children and adults throughout the Pima County portion of the reservation with home-based services. The in-home services program is a collaborative effort between Pantano Behavioral Health Services and Intermountain, under the auspices of the Community Partnership of Southern Arizona, and the following agencies within the Tohono O’odham Nation:

  • Indian Health Service
  • Indian Oasis School District
  • Pima Youth Partnership
  • Tohono O’odham Behavioral Health Services
  • Tohono O’odham Child Welfare Department
  • Tohono O’odham Justice System
  • Tohono O’odham Social Services Department
  • Tohono O’odham Vocational Rehabilitation

Services are individualized to fit the needs and strengths of the child or adult being served, are family-centered, flexible, and occur in the least restrictive environments. Staff of the home-based program are available throughout the Pima County portion of the Tohono O’odham Nation, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. In addition, a Day Program exists to ensure children who are not in school are engaged in a positive, educational, and culturally relevant curriculum daily. Respite care is available for children enrolled in the Home-based Program.
